La sculpture est la branche des arts visuels qui opère en trois dimensions. C'est l'un des arts plastiques. Processus sculpturaux durables utilisés à l'origine sculpture (enlèvement de matière) et de modélisation (ingrédients, tels que l'argile), dans la pierre, métal, céramique, bois et autres matériaux, depuis le modernisme, il y a presque liberté de matériaux et de processus. Une grande variété de matériaux peut être travaillée par extraction, telle que la sculpture, l'assemblage par soudage ou modelage, ou le moulage ou la coulée.

�It was initially built in the 9th century in the Venetian-Byzantine style. It was restored and rebuilt several times, finally in the 18th century, when the fa�ade was altered, stucco applied to the central nave and the ceiling vaults of the interior and three altarpieces added - �Jesus among the Doctors� in the Chapel of St Francis, a 1771 Visitation of the Virgin by Giambattista Canal and �The Adoration of the Magi� by Jacopo Marieschi (the third of these has now been moved elsewhere). The ceiling painting is also by Canal in the style of Tiepolo and shows scenes relating to the churchs patron saint - her baptism in the left aisle, the saint in glory in the central nave and episodes from her life in the right aisle. Its right side overlooks the Giudecca canal and has a portico with Doric style columns, taken from the nearby church and monastery of Santi Biagio e Cataldo during the latters 1593 restoration. In a niche inside the porch is a Gothic-style image of the �Holy Bishop� below a 14th century crucifixion with donors in the Byzantine style, set in a three-faceted bezel. Its interior is a three-nave basilica, whose original columns and capitals survive. A chapel now houses the remains of Blessed Giuliana of Collalto, translated there in 1822, again from santi Biagio e Cataldo. The left aisle also houses an 18th century marble sculpture of the Virgin Mary and Christ by Gianmaria Morlaiter in the left, whilst the firsts altarpiece in the right aisle houses the central part of a triptych of saint Roch and the angel under a lunette of the Virgin and Child, both by Bartolomeo Vivarini and dating to 1480. Designed in the Catalan modernista style by the architect Llu�s Dom�nech i Montaner, it was built between 1905 and 1908 for the Orfe� Catal�, a choral society founded in 1891 that was a leading force in the Catalan cultural movement that came to be known as the Renaixen�a (Catalan Rebirth). It was inaugurated February 9, 1908. The project was financed primarily by the society, but important financial contributions also were made by Barcelona's wealthy industrialists and bourgeoisie. The Palau won the architect an award from the Barcelona City Council in 1909, given to the best building built during the previous year. This thoroughfare interconnects with smaller side streets of similar style, linking together the citys temples and major public buildings. At the middle of it there was Palmyras Triumphal Arch, or gate of Palmyra as it is known by the Syrian people. This Roman archway was one of the most beautiful of the many notable monuments in the ancient city, built in the third century CE by Septimius Severus. In the late summer of 2015, the arch, together with a number of other important structures on the site, was reduced to rubble by extremists who had occupied the ancient city since the spring. The Institute for Digital Archaeology was, at that time, in the early stages of a documentation and cultural heritage protection project in collaboration with the people of the region.
