La sculpture est la branche des arts visuels qui opère en trois dimensions. C'est l'un des arts plastiques. Processus sculpturaux durables utilisés à l'origine sculpture (enlèvement de matière) et de modélisation (ingrédients, tels que l'argile), dans la pierre, métal, céramique, bois et autres matériaux, depuis le modernisme, il y a presque liberté de matériaux et de processus. Une grande variété de matériaux peut être travaillée par extraction, telle que la sculpture, l'assemblage par soudage ou modelage, ou le moulage ou la coulée.

�San Michele in Foro is a Roman Catholic basilica church in Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy, built over the ancient Roman forum. Until 1370 it was the seat of the Consiglio Maggiore (Major Council), the commune's most important assembly. It is dedicated to Archangel Michael. The church is mentioned for the first time in 795 as ad foro (in the forum). It was rebuilt after 1070 by will of Pope Alexander II. Notable is the fa�ade, from the 13th century, with a large series of sculptures and inlays, numerous of which remade in the 19th century. The lower part has a series of blind arcades, the central of which includes the main portal. The upper part, built using plenty of iron materials to counter wind, has four orders of small loggias. On the summit, flanked by two other angels, is the 4 m-tall statue of St. Michael the Archangel. According to a legend, an angel's finger would have a huge diamond. On the lower right corner of the fa�ade is a statue (1480) of the Madonna salutis portus, sculpted by Matteo Civitali to celebrate the end of the 1476 plague. The church interior has a nave and two aisles with transept and semicircular apse; the nave is supported by arcades on monolithic columns. From the southern transept rises the bell tower, built in the 12th-14th centuries, with a series of single, double and triple mullioned windows. Designed in the Catalan modernista style by the architect Llu�s Dom�nech i Montaner, it was built between 1905 and 1908 for the Orfe� Catal�, a choral society founded in 1891 that was a leading force in the Catalan cultural movement that came to be known as the Renaixen�a (Catalan Rebirth). It was inaugurated February 9, 1908. The project was financed primarily by the society, but important financial contributions also were made by Barcelona's wealthy industrialists and bourgeoisie. This thoroughfare interconnects with smaller side streets of similar style, linking together the citys temples and major public buildings. At the middle of it there was Palmyras Triumphal Arch, or gate of Palmyra as it is known by the Syrian people. This Roman archway was one of the most beautiful of the many notable monuments in the ancient city, built in the third century CE by Septimius Severus. In the late summer of 2015, the arch, together with a number of other important structures on the site, was reduced to rubble by extremists who had occupied the ancient city since the spring.
